A First Time Tech CEO

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

I’m was a First-Time Tech CEO... and This is my Story

I’ve always considered myself an entrepreneur but becoming a first-time tech CEO was completely new to me. Fundamentally, I was still building a business from the ground up, but I knew that it was going to be an entirely new challenge. Admittedly, I was intimidated at the beginning because I knew that it was going to be unlike anything I’ve ever done before but as time progressed, I began to realize that it was just like building any other business. For me it’s always been about surrounding yourself with great people and having a great product.

Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to participate in the L-SPARK Accelerator program which is designed to ensure your company has the right fundamentals and talent to scale. The program pairs businesses with dedicated mentors that intend to help you think big, and create business plans that fuel, and accelerate your business.

The L-SPARK Accelerator program taught me the basics of founding a tech start-up like what the difference between a frontend and backend developer was, what a product manager does, the importance of having a quality assurance team, and so much more. Each and every lesson was extremely valuable with one of the most important being that tech takes time.

Every single business we built was founded on the principle of solving a problem. If we could solve a problem and build a solid business model or product that solved the problem, we knew we could grow from there. If you’re not solving a problem that consumers are willing to pay for then it’s a hobby, not a valid business model.

In addition to solving a problem, and creating a quality product that solves the problem, I learned that it's extremely important to surround yourself with good people. If you surround yourself with a solid team that is perpetually curious and dedicated to your businesses’ mission you can achieve anything.

Having built and sold 6 different rental companies and most recently founding a successful franchise software company has prepared me for both of my most recent ventures, Ruckify and Bunking.com.

Each and every one of my past experiences in conjunction with all of the brilliant people I have met along the way have led me to where I am today.
